Quick Overview: What is Colorectal Cancer?
Colorectal Cancer – or “CRC” – is cancer of the colon and/or rectum. CRC occurs when cells in this region reproduce rapidly & uncontrollably. These cells fail to function healthily.
CRC usually begins as a polyp or small growth of non-cancerous tissue in the colon or rectum. These cells develop methodically over a period of years and can eventually change beyond tissue growth to a tumor – or lump of cancer cells. CRC is most treatable when diagnosed early.
How is CRC Diagnosed?
Colorectal tumors are most frequently detected by diagnostic and screening procedures like a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. If the polyps are determined to be cancerous, surgery is scheduled to remove the tumor.
Once CRC has been diagnosed and treated, it is highly recommended for patients to routinely monitor for recurrence of the disease. Patients generally return to their physician every 3-4 months during the first 2-3 years and twice annually to check whether the cancer has returned.
Ask your doctor about using Onko-Sure® during routine monitoring.
